Volunteer With Us

Our mission is to provide Californians the information and support to successfully navigate their legal end-of-life options.

EOLCCA is committed to building a community of support, not only for our clients but also for one another. As a volunteer, you’ll be an essential part of this journey, helping to ensure everyone has access to the dignity they deserve.

We are the only organization in California dedicated to providing no-cost, in-person support to individuals who choose to use their legal end-of-life option under the California End-of-Life Option Act. Our work also includes educating Californians about their legal end-of-life choices, advocating for patient rights, and providing information, referrals, and emotional support through our client, phone, and bereavement volunteers.

Types of Volunteering

Client Volunteers

Provide in-person and virtual support to individuals and their loved ones regarding their legal end-of-life options. This work may include providing non-judgmental support and information related to the California End-of-Life Option Act, voluntary stopping eating and drinking (VSED), hospice care, advance directives, MAiD bereavement support, and other related topics. The most essential skills for a client volunteer are the ability to connect with others in an empathetic, unbiased, and supportive manner, as well as the ability to discuss issues related to end-of-life care comfortably and openly.

Content & Marketing

Help us expand our social media presence, create and curate content for our website, and market our free programs to new audiences and communities.

Fundraising & Development

All EOLCCA programs are offered at no cost and are funded through individual donations. Volunteers can help connect us with potential supporters and funders, or explore new funding models and funding sources.

Outreach Volunteers

Outreach volunteers are critical in helping us expand our programs and reach more Californians. As an outreach volunteer, you can attend relevant community events and resource fairs, staff our table, contact community organizations to schedule a presentation, join a regional outreach team, or help expand our hospice and medical provider outreach team.

Speakers Program Volunteers

Help us educate Californians about their end-of-life choices! Deliver live and virtual presentations & participate in discussion panels. Speakers Program volunteers agree to attend regular speaker practice sessions.

Technology and Administrative Support Volunteers

We are a small, volunteer-driven nonprofit with an active board and two paid staff members. We welcome volunteers interested in technology planning, administrative support, and internal content development, including the creation of training guides.

Warm Line Phone Volunteers

Our phone line is a critical way we provide support, information & referral to our clients. Phone volunteers must be able to connect with others over the phone, have strong listening skills, document calls accurately, have a flexible schedule, and be willing to commit to a minimum of 12 months of volunteering.

We ask volunteers to

  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Provide support through active listening and empathy when speaking with clients.
  • Agree to a background check.
  • Adhere to volunteer agreement expectations.
  • Communicate project details to the Volunteer and Program Manager.
  • Attend the monthly virtual volunteer meeting or watch the recording if you are unable to attend in person.
  • Agree not to promote any paid services while acting as an EOLCCA volunteer.

Spring and Summer 2026:

We encourage anyone interested in volunteering with EOLCCA to apply. Currently, we are prioritizing bilingual client support volunteers, particularly those fluent in Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese. In addition, we are especially interested in finding outreach and client support volunteers who live in Kern, San Bernardino, Stanislaus, or Yolo counties.
