Legal end-of-life options in California include discontinuing or declining medical treatments, hospice and palliative care, and voluntarily stopping eating and drinking (VSED). Additional detail will be provided about California’s End of Life Option Act (in effect since 2016), a law that is also referred to as Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD).
Presenters: Stewart Florsheim, EOLCCA Board Vice President, and Adrian Byram, EOLCCA Board Secretary
Florsheim will describe EOLCCA’s services in providing information and support about legal end-of-life options, including Voluntarily Stopping Eating and Drinking (VSED) – what it is and who can use it. He will also discuss the use of dementia directives in addition to an advance health directive. Byram will outline his recently published paper comparing awareness of MAID (Medical Aid in Dying) in California and Canada.
Private: For residents of Piedmont Gardens
