End of Life Options with Emphasis on California’s End of Life Option Act

The legal end of life options in California will be outlined such as discontinuing or declining medical treatments, hospice and palliative care, and voluntarily stopping eating and drinking (VSED).

California’s End of Life Option Act (2016), a law that is also referred to as Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD) will be covered in more detail.  This discussion will include who is eligible, recent changes to the law, the patient’s required process and written request needed for obtaining the prescription from a physician, the estimated costs, and ingestion guidelines.
